Can an American expat go from Israel to Lebanon?

I (American) lived in Israel for 1 year at one point and am now considering job/living possibilities in Lebanon, among other places. I didn't think it would be such a big deal to do this, as I had traveled to Egypt from Israel with no problems whatsoever. But a Lebanese friend of mine told me there's no way they [Lebanese] would let me in.

Anyone happen to know how politically accurate this is, by any chance? And is this all unspoken politic or is there some kind of travelling regulations page I am missing...
