Malik Niblack Pleads to Attempted Murder Charges - Murder ...

Malik Niblack, 22, pleaded guilty to attempted murder charges for an attack last summer of Chinese immigrant Jicun Wu, outside the Bo Shing Chinese takeout restaurant in Philadelphia.

About a month before the attack, Niblack, who frequented the Chinese takeout, had an argument with Wu's wife at the takeout over change, reports the Philadelphia Daily News. Apparently, Niblack plotted revenge and waited a month to seek retribution against Wu.

Niblack waited for Wu outside the restaurant, reports the Daily News. When Wu emerged, Niblack punched him to the ground and kicked him at least ten times as Wu went in and out of consciousness. In a statement to police, Niblack did not express any remorse for the attack admitting to kicking Wu even as he "balled up" and made "this funny noise." Niblack added that he thought the attack was "funny" and that he was "laughing" at his victim, even later bragging to his friends about the attack.

The 44-year-old Wu has remained at a hospital ever since the attack, and he is not expected to leave anytime soon, reports the Daily News. The takeout worker still cannot eat through his mouth.

Niblack was charged with attempted murder. In Pennsylvania, the crime of attempt carries the same penalties as the underlying crime. So, someone faced with attempted murder charges, will face the same penalties as murder -- conceivably life imprisonment.

Instead of facing such a stiff penalty, Niblack negotiated a plea deal and was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

Malik Niblack faced attempted murder charges of Jicun Wu over what could have been less than a dollar in change. Now Niblack has 6-15 years to think about what he did.
